Learn More About Variant Plant Co.Fresh Foliage - New Releases
There are many ways that we produce our plants. Although the technique may vary, the ultimate goal is to create a healthy, established plant that you can purchase direct from our website.
Cuttings are by far one of the most common means of propagation that we employ at Variant Plant Company. Plants are cut into nodal sections, dipped in rooting hormone and placed on our mist benches to root out. After several weeks, the plant is ready for sale.
Many of our aroids (especially anthurium) can be grown from seed. We pollinate our mother plant's inflorescence and wait a few months until we can harvest the resulting berries. We collect the seeds and sow them directly into our media.
Liners or cell trays are pre-established young plants. Roots are aleady developed and can then be transplanted into their desired pot size and grown out to specification.
Tissue culture is a means of growing a plant in laboratory sterile conditions. Plants are micropropagated and grown in agar media. When rooted to an appropriate size, the plantlets are removed from their containers, acclimated into our growing media and then grown out on our production benches. Variant Plant Company is now producing some of our plant material through our in-house laboratory.
